The purpose of this course is to help students prepare for the Pearson Test of English - Academic (PTE-A) examination. It primarily focuses on developing students' English language proficiency in areas tested by the exam, and also has elements of familiarisation with the PTE test and test-taking skills that are useful during the test. It is targeted at students aiming for a score that will enable them to achieve their personal or study goals.

Each week has a different topic. Topics are chosen to be relevant to the PTE exam – and interesting as well. Students have a coursebook plus online activities to help them learn. Students work with their classmates as well as on their own; discussions and group work all feature regularly in this course so that students can practise speaking and listening, as in the test.

There are short tests of different skills every week, and the teacher provides marks for homework. There is a lot of exam practice and feedback on answers. This type of assessment helps students see if they are making progress in achieving the course learning outcomes. It also helps teachers know which areas to give extra attention to. All assessment is designed to help students learn as well as show their success.

The General English program is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive foundation in the English language, enabling them to communicate effectively in both vocational and everyday life contexts. This course aims to develop the key language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as fostering a deeper understanding of English grammar and vocabulary.

This General English course is intended to help students raise the level of their English language proficiency in a general way across a range of purposes for learning the language.

For students with no further study aims, their purpose for studying English is typically to help them socialise in English, increase their employability either in their home country or in the UAE, or simply to broaden their horizons by living and learning in a country other than their own.

The course also caters for students who are heading for further study, who do not yet have the level of English language proficiency. Students may also progress to the PTE Preparation course at Ambassador Language and Training Centre.

The overarching objectives of the General English program are to help learners to improve their ability to:

Interact socially with other English speakers, whether in informal or semi-formal situations, face-to-face or online;

Take part effectively in transactional exchanges, written as well as spoken, such as the purchase and/or use of goods and services;

Understand information from spoken and written sources of common interest such as websites, podcasts and TV programmes;

Inform, influence and perhaps entertain others through speaking and writing

Take charge of their own language learning.

A major aspect of these objectives is the use of English for personal enjoyment. Ultimately, the program aims to equip learners with the confidence and competence to use English meaningfully in their daily lives.
